Eight students from 东北湖景学院 began their Summer Science Research Program. The students will be participating in research at UTSA and on the NLC campus as a part of the CIMA (Ciencia, Ingenieria, y Matemáticas Aliados) LS-AMP (Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation) grant. Half of the students are conducting research in civil engineering, 生物物理学, chemistry and physics for 10 weeks in partnership with UTSA and will receive a $3,000 stipend at the completion of the project. The other students will be conducting research at NLC in conjunction with a researcher at Kansas State University. Their research will run for five weeks and these students will receive a stipend of $1,500. All of the summer research students will present their research at a symposium on August 3 at St. 菲利普的大学.

Two faculty members at 东北湖景学院 are coordinating these Summer programs for students to include Marsha Adrian, assistant professor of chemistry and Dr. Erica Cain, assistant professor of biology. CIMA LS-AMP assists in diversifying the STEM workforce through their efforts at significantly increasing the numbers of students successfully completing high quality degree programs in science, 技术, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
